A suite of six connected business applications maintained and extended at Indus BPO. The system brings accounting, project management, employee attendance, insurance management, tax calculations and quotation tools together while allowing each application to operate independently.

The challenge

Business teams needed reliable tools for accounting, project tracking, employee attendance, insurance records, tax calculations and quotation management. Each application evolved according to its own requirements, making independent development important while still requiring the applications to exchange relevant data.

Over time, changing business rules made significant portions of the original application logic outdated. The challenge was to introduce new features, resolve existing issues and rework core logic without disrupting the workflows that the business depended on.

The applications

The suite consists of six applications, each serving a distinct business function while contributing to the wider operational workflow.

• Accounting application. A comprehensive accounting system for managing ledgers, invoicing and financial records.
• Project and task management. Organizes projects, tasks and employee assignments, with progress tracking to support project delivery.
• Employee attendance and overtime. Tracks daily attendance and overtime hours to support payroll calculations and employee reporting.
• Insurance AMS. An agency management system for organizing insurance policies and claims.
• Tax calculator. Calculates tax figures consistently, helping users perform routine tax calculations more efficiently.
• Quote calculators (USD and PKR). Generates quotations in US dollars and Pakistani rupees using consistent pricing rules.

How the apps work together

Each application maintains its own responsibilities and can be developed, tested and released independently. Where workflows overlap, the applications exchange relevant data to reduce duplication and maintain consistency.

For example, project activity, employee attendance and quotation information can contribute to accounting workflows. This approach keeps each application focused while allowing the overall suite to support interconnected business operations.

Maintenance and continuous improvement

A significant part of this project involved long-term maintenance and adapting the applications to changing business requirements. This included adding features, fixing bugs, improving performance and revisiting existing architectural and business logic decisions.

As requirements evolved, I reworked most of the core logic across the applications to better reflect current business rules. The work required balancing new functionality with the stability and accuracy of established workflows.

Rather than treating the applications as finished products, the focus was on keeping the entire suite reliable, maintainable and useful as the business continued to grow.

Architecture and technology stack

The suite uses a modular, multi-application approach. Each application operates independently while supporting data exchange where required by business workflows.

My role

I worked as the maintainer and lead developer for the application suite at Indus BPO, handling ongoing development across all six applications.

Indus BPO was my first professional role, and I'm grateful to the team there for the trust, the responsibility and the chance to learn on real production systems.
